Subject: A Personal Update on OneKey’s Commitment to Our Shared Marketplace
Dear OneKey MLS Participants,
Last week, we shared our commitment to you, your clients, and an open marketplace. At the heart of that commitment is our belief that true seller choice and an open, fair, and competitive marketplace can—and should—coexist.
Today, OneKey MLS has joined California Regional Multiple Listing Service (CRMLS) as a plaintiff in its federal lawsuit against Compass in the Southern District of New York. Together, we are asking the court to affirm that our respective rules– designed to ensure the sharing of publicly marketed listings with the MLS– are lawful and procompetitive.
We considered this decision carefully. The issues at stake affect how buyers and sellers access listing information and how participating brokerages compete to serve them.
The principle behind our decision is straightforward: a brokerage that chooses to participate in the MLS should not benefit from the listings you share while withholding its own publicly marketed listings from the same marketplace.
That reciprocal exchange has practical value. It helps buyers discover homes across brokerage firms while working with the professional they choose. It helps sellers reach prospective buyers represented by other firms and earn maximum value for their home. And it allows your businesses to compete through expertise, service, and relationships—not exclusive control over listing information.
By joining this lawsuit, OneKey is taking an active role in addressing issues that directly affect your businesses and your clients. Our shared goal with CRMLS is to protect consumers’ access to housing opportunities and uphold fair competition among the brokerages that serve them.
Our commitment to seller choice remains unchanged. OneKey offers options for privacy, MLS-only exposure, and broader public distribution. A seller choosing to limit exposure is different from a brokerage publicly marketing a property while withholding it from the shared MLS.
I also want to reaffirm our commitment to every OneKey participant, including our Compass participants and agents. This disagreement does not diminish our respect for your work or change the care, resources, and service you should expect from us.
We recognize that thoughtful people may see these issues differently. We will continue listening, evaluating our policies, and investing in services that help you serve your clients.
We will keep you informed through our Choice and Competition resource page.
Thank you for your trust and for what you contribute to this marketplace every day. I take the responsibility that comes with that trust very seriously.
Warm regards,
Richard Haggerty
